Rain Plays spoilsport in Sydney; Sends India in Do or Die Situation

January 26 23:08 2015

india odi1New Delhi, Tuesday, January 27 – The 5th match of the Tri-series between India and Australia was called off, leaving several supporters in huge disappointment as they wanted to see their respective teams log victory on the opponents. Toss was won by Australia and they elected to field first against Indian camp.  The start for Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men wasn’t good as at all and so was for the opener Shikhar Dhawan who is struggling to be back in form and accumulate some runs for his team, giving the Men in Blue a robust opening. However, the youngster failed to do this job and gave Australia an early breakthrough. Mitchell Starc bowled a beautiful delivery, making Dhawan to give an easy catch to Aaron Finch at the individual score of 8.

His dismissal made the new batsman Ambati Rayudu to arrive on the crease and do his bit. Rayudu has shown from time to time that he makes best use of the opportunity whenever given the chance to perform on the 22 yards pitch. This time as well he tried to bring the difference by playing a short but impressive knock of 23 runs of 24 balls, which consisted of a couple of sixes and a biggie.  Mitchell Marsh brought his classy play to an end, giving Dhoni’s playing XI another shocker.

The opener Ajinkya Rahane, of course, spent time on the crease, sending the opponents a clear signal that he is not going to repeat the same mistake of throwing his precious wicket before accumulating good runs. The youngster seem perfectly stable and this is the reason why a 28-run inning was exhibited by him of 50 balls. Two boundaries made Australia do some running in the ground. The strong man Virat Kohli was at the other end with 3 runs in his pocket.

Due to the bad weather, 16 over game took place in Sydney. India scored 69 runs for the loss of two wickets. Despite the fact that India and Australia contest was spoiled by rain but the only good thing that happened for the Indian camp was the distribution of points. Since the two squads got two points each in their favor in the 5th ODI of the ongoing tournament, Australia remained on the top. India, though, hold no. 3 position but if they successfully want to be ahead of the England in the final face-off to be held at W.A.C.A. Ground, Perth, on Friday, January 30, Indian fans will get to see the grand finale between their country and the host.

Cricket is considered the most unpredictable sport amid others. Situation changes all of a sudden in this format as compared to any other games thanks to outstanding play by an individual or teammates as a unit. The outcome could have been anything at the end had the play continued up till 50 overs, nonetheless, if truth is to be told then Australia seemed to be sending India at the back foot for the reason that they made efforts to inflict another defeat on the guest by letting two of the top-order batsmen go back to the pavilion.

No wonder if India could have done the same as it is considered a group which has the potential to outshine the rivals, performing at the best of their abilities. Having other players like Suresh Raina, Stuart Binny, Akshar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami, Dhoni may possibly expect of being victorious in the crucial matches but at the same time, eyes can’t be close to the reality that most of these chaps aren’t able to score. Bowlers failed to get wickets and this got proved in the earlier match against England where they were thrashed y 9-wicket defeat post putting a minimal total 153 runs on the scoreboard.

In view of the fact that the English men beat India by bonus point, India were left with no option but to win the last two matches at any cost. Thankfully they now have two points in hand. However, last match against England is to be won if India wants to see themselves contesting in opposition to the Aussies on Feb 1 in the race to be the winner prior to the World Cup. With some luck and some efforts, it is going to be interesting who enters in the final and who misses it. Let us wait and watch for the next ODI to take place.
