Zimbabwe Eye Fresh Start against Pakistan in ODI Tournament on Home Turf

October 01 01:09 2015

pakistanNew Delhi, Thursday, October 1 – Last few tournaments haven’t been good for Zimbabwe whether they played these on their home turf or outside the comfort zone. They were thrashed by young Indian team in the ODI matches a couple of months ago. A 3-0 whitewash by the Men in Blue made it clear that the opponents have to improve in several departments if they want to emerge as a big threat for the powerhouses.

Zimbabwe were able to level T20 series against India by winning the 2nd and decisive match by 10 runs. This was an achievement as a conclusion of a series with a victory is important. However, they couldn’t utilize the time to prepare well before Pakistan flew to their country to contest in 2-match T20 series and 3-match ODI series. The tourists have already won the shortest format series by 2-0 and are looking forward to put early stress on the opposition in 50-50 over game as well. Taking into consideration the old records, Pakistan position appears strong. Since March they haven’t lost any match against Zimbabwe, be it an ICC Cricket World Cup match at Brisbane Cricket Ground or the tournaments on their soil that held in May this year.

If truth be told then psychological pressure is on Zimbabwe as the contest is taking place in the conditions with which they are familiar. Harare Sports Club in Harare is once again the venue to host One-Day Internationals. Certainly, the crowd will be amazing and so will be the support for the home team. However, it is to be kept in mind that streaks of defeats make viewers lose interest in the game. If Zimbabwe fail to log some victories soon in the near future, including the ongoing tournament, it would be hard for them to see the audience backing the cricketers whenever shots and biggies are hit, wickets are taken, run outs are done and stumps are struck before the batsman is inside the safe line.

Just a few hours are left for the contest to kick off and all eyes are stuck on how the hosts perform in the ODI format. Here is to mention that their bowling attack was sharp and bowlers in T20 matches were able to stop Pakistani cricketers from piling up good number of scores. It was the weak batting of theirs that made them lose both T20 Internationals. Had the batting unit been able to accumulate some considerable runs while chasing the target, none knows, story could have been different. It would be a challenge for them to face Pakistani bowling with confidence as this part being the strength of the tourists.

All in all, an exciting tournament is on the cards but this would require players to pour hundred percent efforts. Any room for mistake could give the opponents a chance to capitalize it, making their position strong. Toss may impart crucial part, giving one of the skippers the opportunity to make a decision either to bat or ball first. Preparations in the ground have been done to successfully host the 1st ODI between Pakistan and Zimbabwe. What combinations do captains of both teams pick will be important to notice for the reason that there is a purpose to include spinners, all-rounders and batsmen who can prove their selection worth by doing their bit in a manner that no one thought. Let us wait and watch whether any new tale is written by Zimbabwe today or Pakistan get success to begin ODI with a win once again.
