Zimbabwe Eye Victory against Pakistan to Avoid T20 Whitewash

September 29 00:13 2015

zimbNew Delhi, Tuesday, September 29 – In the first match of fresh tournament between Zimbabwe and Pakistan, the latter party beat the former at Harare Sports Club in Harare a couple of days ago by 13 runs. Pakistan tour of Zimbabwe is not for a long duration but they ensure to overcome all challenges to make their stint in the overseas memorable.

When both teams fought in first T20 International match, it seemed tough that the tourists will be able to thrash the hosts by stopping them at 123 runs, which were 13 less than what was required to win the game. Zimbabwe lost 9 wickets. Probably the defeat of 3-0 in Bangladesh against Bangladesh made them learn that no team is weak till they have the potential to put their best foot forward and are ready to show the world a new start and emergence of a squad that could be a threat for the powerhouses.

The men in green shirts, without a shred of doubt, are tough as compared to the host as far as lately played tournaments are taken into considerable. Strategies play pivotal role in making a team win a game and these are to be updated as the event progresses. Pakistan would wish their supporters should enjoy some wonderful exhibition but that is not going to be easy. It is unfortunate that Zimbabwe players did not make it at the last moment in the first match of the T20 tournament but they certainly made Pak feel the heat.

Shahid Afridi’s experience will help his team be on the winning side by accepting the invitation to either bat or ball if toss is lost. If he wins it, job on the shoulders of visitors will increase. The captain guided his men in a way near to perfect, letting Pak win a match where total score was not high. Defending such target isn’t easy and Umar Akmal, Sohaib Maqsood, Shahid Afridi, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Rizwan, Wahab Riaz, Sohail Tanvir, Imran Khan Jr, Mukhtar Ahmed, Ahmed Shehzad and Shoaib Malik did their bit by stopping the ball from going to the fences on several occasions.

Role of bowlers was also huge as they compelled the rivals to go for such shots that were wrong to play at that particular moment. It would be interesting to see whether anyone among Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Irfan, Bilal Asif and Aamer Yamin are picked to perform in the shortest format today or not. The captain of Pakistan team will focus on having a combination those bowlers and batsmen who can impart their roles as all-rounders as well to contribute much in the success of squad.

Zimbabwe playing XI, which is likely to have Utseya, Graeme Cremer, Tinashe Panyangara, Chamu Chibhabha, Sikandar Raza, Hamilton Masakadza, Richmond Mutumbami, Luke Jongwe, Prosper Craig Ervine and Sean Williams, has no option but to win the decisive and final match on Tuesday to avoid T20 whitewash. Elton Chigumbura’s captaincy will be imperative to lead his boys towards the path of success. Malcolm Waller, Neville Madziva, Chris Mpofu, Taurai Muzarabani and John Nyumbu are probable to stay in extras. No wonder if any of them finds a spot in the team by replacing someone who failed to make his appearance in the team impressive.

The home team will lose the T20 series as well if loses today’s contest. The likelihood of witnessing surprising shocks at different time intervals is on the cards and efforts are likely to be poured by players of both sides. Chamu Chamu Chibhabha, the leading wicket-taker of the previous match got to make certain that he gives his team a good opening. Craig Ervine will also need to read deliveries by different men perfectly to avoid getting his legs before wicket as he was out in the same manner.

The fort is to be held by Sikandar Raza as well. There is need to not let the young Imad Wasim start collapsing Zimbabwe. Here is to mention that 4-wicket haul of the cricketer did not let the home group play with confidence. It was a tad surprising to see most of the Zimbabwe players getting run out or lbw. Chigumbura played an innings of 31 runs in 28 balls. He struck 2 fours and 1 six to get these many runs. But his contribution was not enough. Others also got to contribute as it’s hard for one man to take his team towards success, especially when pace of scoring run is to be increased.

Imad Wasim received Man of the Match award taking 4 wickets. Focus of Pak’s skipper will be to motivate opener Ahmed Shehzad, Mukhtar Ahmed, Sohaib Maqsood and Umar Akmal give their team a strong start. It is good that they were able to win the contest thanks to team efforts but story may be different if room for mistakes is left. Zimbabwe will look forward capitalize the opportunity and bounce back if motto is to level the series by 1-1. Outstanding stuffs can be done by both young and experienced cricketers but that would require terrific efforts. Since just a few hours are left for the match to kick off, home supporters wish Zimbabwe to finally end the series with a victory and progress towards ODI contest having their morals up. Let us wait slightly more. Curtains will be taken off from the suspense about winner of today’s contest.
